New Models & Another Tune-Up

New Models & Another Tune-Up

We promised, and here we are to deliver. The next two chassis and the brand new Drama mechanic are now in the latest update of ProtoDrive.

For those of you just joining us from the High Voltage Bundle, welcome! While the game is still in development, it's already playable, and we'll continue to expand it with more options over time and further hone in on improvements for the connections between the RP and racing side of things.

What's new?

WCMC T-5 Yoofoh

"Every experiment has a result."

Because of Wright-Clarke’s focus on customizability, their designers’ willingness to experiment is unbound by paltry things like delivery times, budgetary constraints, or feasibility. Though the T-1 was already considered outlandish by most other companies standards, the artisans behind it kept iterating, adding new features, refining its shape, and even apparently breaking the laws of physics to eventually create otherworldly T-5 Yoofoh.

This chassis contains experimental tech that the fine folks at the Wright-Clarke Motor Company swear is totally of Earthly origin, and decline to comment on recent rumors of a strange flying object that crashed on one of their test sites. Between a magnetic fluid gear changing system, top of its weight class safety features, and ability to "quantum tunnel" through obstacles, the Yoofoh is a dream come true for any hobbyist who wants to be on the bleeding edge. Just remember that WCMC will not be held responsible for any unforeseen effects of the temporal lockdown module.

DF Merlin

"Magically Fast, Dangerously Thrilling."

While this chassis’ appearance evokes the bird it’s named after, its engineering bears more of a resemblance to the wizard of the same moniker. Flashy, more powerful than you’d expect, and a bit unhinged, the Merlin is extremely good at going astonishingly fast in a straight line. Try to change your path with too much haste, however, and you’ll learn just how predestined some things are.

This chassis is considered De Falco's response to some of the more "interesting" techniques coming out of WCMC. By combining their true pursuit of the tippy-toppest of speeds with the willingness to try out ill-advised things of their competition, the Merlin achieves heights previously thought impossible (or at least impractical). Instead of the usual nitrous systems seen in racing circles that send a small drip-feed of boosting chemicals to the engine, the Merlin opts to dump jet fuel into its system, giving it an instant boost at the cost of leaving behind a blaze on the tarmac. But that's a problem for people behind them.

Drama Tokens & Drama Dice

The other big change with this update is the addition of the Drama system. For those of you familiar with Gubat Banwa's Thunderbolt tokens, you'll already have a decent idea of how these work, but they have been altered to fit the vibe and mechanics of our system. For those who aren't, these essentially add a reward system for creating drama within roleplaying that both drives the story forward and makes things more complicated for the player party. These rewards can later be exchanged for mechanical advantages on later dice rolls, and even be used to alter races in meaningful ways.

We hope this system will reward the kind of dramatic scenes you get in racing media with mechanical advantages once the rubber hits the asphalt in a way that will create better gameplay, but recognize that getting the balance right on it may be a long-term experiment. As a result, this first version likely won't be its final form.

Coming Soon

We have basic plans for eight more chassis, but the numbers for them haven't been hammered out yet, so they're still a ways off. Just to get your blood pumping in the meantime, though, we've listed the names of the next four we'll be working on below!

  • New Chassis
    • Bold McKinney
    • MHI Chujitsu
    • WCMC Formula 87
    • DF Aplomado
  • Character Sheet updates
  • Map Tile updates
